About Steve Handy

I am currently employed at Global University (GU). I worked at GU for the last 21 years. During my time serving GU, I acquired many different types of skills and experiences. My first set of responsibilities at GU was serving in the Student Services department as a representative. This position required a fair amount of data entry into students' records, academic advising, and order placement for courses to be shipped to students. Paying attention to details, good communication skills, problem-solving, and being knowledgeable in the ins and outs of the university was necessary for success as a Student Service representative. After serving in this capacity for a year and half, I moved to Instructional Services. This department was a sub-department of Student Services. We were responsible for the grading of written assignments within our adult-continuing education school Berean School of the Bible. During my time in this department, I graded thousands of students' papers, sermons, and final examinations. Analytical skills, expertise in ministerial fields, and encouragement made this position thrive. This department morphed into its own department-the Berean department. I served in the Berean department until 2013 when I became the departmental chairperson, eventually, the dean of the school. When I was appointed Dean of the Berean School of the Bible, I also served on GU's Board of Administration (BOA) from 2013-2023. In 2023 the BOA was reduced to a smaller number of participants. When I served on the BOA, I provided a voice into the direction of the university. I was involved in the strategic planning, development, and the climate of the work culture. I am currently serving at the academic dean of the Berean School of the Bible. I am part of the university-wide educational technological project of transitioning all of our courses into a in-house created learning management system (LMS) and student information system (SIS). My team (the Berean department) and I are designing our courses for multi-media instruction and engaging interactive learning activities through our new web-based learning management system. We have been immersed into this technology learning a new set of skills based on self-motivation, self-disciplined, adaptable, and most of all innovative. Together as a team, we search out the best way to present our curriculum in a compelling e-learning content for generations of students to come.
