About Steve Hof

Deep down, I’m a host. And, for the most part, I host parties. Whether at festivals for thousands of people, in restaurants, pubs and clubs across Western Canada, or in my home, my passions lie in showing people a great time and making them feel like they’re the the most important person in the room. HOFspitality is the name I’ve given my freelance / consulting business I started in 2014, and while my nights are generally booked with recurring gigs, I do offer consulting during daytime hours. I know……, ‘those who can’t, teach.’ While I do tend to agree with that statement, as I consistently work my way up the World Host Ladder, topping up the bank account with consulting dollars becomes less and less necessary. So, whether as a nightclub VIP host, a festival organizer, a bartender, or the clown at my nephew’s birthday, all I have to say is: “High Fives are cooler than handshakes.” In addition to all that, last year I was lucky enough to land a publisher for my first book, Hot Water with Lemon; the story of my first eighteen years in the business, in all its uncensored glory. After owning and operating a 150 seat restaurant in Victoria, BC for nine and a half years, and working in the industry for more than eight years before that, I shifted gears toward a short stint in the digital marketing arena. Working for PIKO taught how to take my customer service and networking skills and replicate them digitally; knowledge I expect will be invaluable moving forward. When it comes down to it, however, I was meant to be in hospitality. In 1996, after my first dishwashing shift in the industry, I pledged to keep a journal detailing my adventures both during work, and after. Now, more than journal entries and two decades of constant experimentation and documentation later, I’ve got stories and then some. So, whether you need help throwing a party, finding a party, or reading about then thousand parties, you know who to call. High fives and wristbands.
