About Steve Hoovler

Steve Hoovler is the owner and founder of Oarsmen Consulting. For more than 20 years Steve has been immersed in the fly fishing and outdoor industry. He’s owned a fly shop, worked as a fishing outfitter, led backcountry pack trips, developed programs and hosted anglers to international destinations like Belize, the Bahamas and Argentina. Living in some of the most iconic locales in the sporting world, and working among so many legends of the industry, Steve has always been fascinated by “What made one lodge, outfitter, guide, or shop more successful than another?” This native curiosity continues to fuel a decades-long intense personal study of business and digital marketing. Steve has worked with businesses large and small, from lodges and outfitters in Argentina to fly shops and guides in Montana, Idaho, and Pennsylvania. A lifetime of experience throughout the industry, and the fact that he still rows a boat and guides clients every summer, gives Steve a unique perspective, and the skills needed to understand the specific challenges and opportunities for businesses in the fly fishing and outdoor industry. When he’s not consumed with Oarsmen, Steve’s love of guiding keeps him on the oars in Pennsylvania during the Spring and Fall, and in Yellowstone Country on legendary waters like the Henry’s Fork and Madison during the summer. Otherwise, you’ll find him adventuring somewhere with his wife and son in the mountains and on the water.
