About Steve Kanters

Evidence-based medicine in the age of over-information requires better evidence synthesis and decision making. I am passionate about innovation, impact, and every step in between. As a scientist and leader, I continually strive to optimize the value and to find the stories that existing data can provide. Through this passion I have brought modern evidence synthesis methods to late-adopter settings such as the World Health Organization, which used network meta-analysis for the first time to inform its HIV clinical guidelines, and to the Food and Drug Administration, which is currently reviewing a network meta-analysis based application for a Pre-Market Approval. My passion for making sense of data expands well beyond evidence synthesis. My collaborative work in the field of HIV, as well as my experience as a teacher, have allowed me to conduct global health research, particularly in East Africa – in Rwanda and Uganda. Years of ART scale-up in sub-Saharan Africa have produced an abundance of data and I believe it is important that their lessons and experiences be described by those who have led the work rather than outsiders with methodological expertise. I have a Master’s of Science in Statistics and currently completing a Doctoral degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I spent the first five years of my career as an instructor and a research statistician before transitioning into consulting. Here I was exposed to the multiple skills required to help run a start-up and go through a merger and acquisition. I believe I contribute a strong mix of statistical expertise and innovative thinking, communications and critical thinking, and a solid management experience.
