About Steve Klos

I've been involved in managing software products since I started my career - I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Based on my experiences, I'm working to change the way the software publishing market provides information to their customers in order to support more automated and authoritative management of compliance and security processes. Some have said I'm tilting at windmills, but I've been successful at getting Adobe, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Symantec and a large number of tool providers to support the efforts I'm promoting. I've been very successful at getting companies that are normally competitors to agree on standardized requirements and structures that will benefit the market as a whole. More importantly, these organizations have financially supported the evangelism of these efforts to the rest of the market through their support of TagVault.org. Through my work with the Federal Government, I've achieved what may have thought to be impossible - to get the largest single purchaser of software to move towards requiring standardized identification in all software sold to the US Government. Ultimately, the work I'm doing will save money for software publishers and software consumers while lowering risk, improving security capabilities and improving automation procedures for every organization that installs and uses software. As an evangelist of the effort to improve the accuracy and accessibility of software data, I regularly present at conferences such as IAITAM, Gartner, IBM Interconnect and the Microsoft Partner Conference. I tend to see issues through with a more diverse perspective than many. I believe this is due to my work with so many different publishers who've sometimes had divergent perspectives on particular issues as well as the fact that I am also a dual national (US and Irish Citizenship) and I lived in Australia as a permanent resident for two years, giving me a more worldly perspective.
