I practice intellectual property law with a focus on acquiring IP protection for innovators around the world. I provide strategic intellectual property advice on IP filing strategies, IP portfolio management, trade secrets, IP agreements and licensing, and monetization. I obtain patents, designs and trademarks around the world for a variety of creative businesses and entrepreneurs, and provide patentability, infringement, validity and freedom to operate opinions. I assist with domestic innovators to build robust international IP portfolios and assist foreign innovators to obtain IP protection in Canada. I collaborate with innovators to create an IP strategy that takes into consideration revenue streams, exit plans, strategic competitors, market potential, detectability, workarounds, and enforceability. I work with leaders in traditional electronics, information and communications technology (EICT) industries as well as non-traditional EICT industries such as agriculture, automotive, cannabis, chemical, healthcare, oil & gas, manufacturing, mining machinery and power generation. I have experience in a wide range of EICT technologies including artificial intelligence and machine learning, autonomous vehicles, biometrics, blockchain technology, cryptography, communications and messaging infrastructure, data analytics including web analytics, data management including social media and web platform management, data security and user authentication, media encoding, financial technology, medical imaging, robotics, sensors, quantum computing and quantum-inspiring computing, and user interfaces. My interests include astronomy and photography. I am an avid cyclist and skier, and enjoy spending time outdoors with my family.
