About Steve Mathieu
After studying Medicine at St. Bartholomews Hospital, London, I completed a medical rotation, before training in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine in the Wessex region. I was appointed as a Consultant (ICM & Anaesthesia) in 2010 at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. I have held a number of leadership roles within the NHS including Clinical Director (2016-2019), Care Group Director and Divisional Director. In Nov 2024 I was appointed Medical Director at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. In 2016 I was elected as a Council Member for the Intensive Care Society (ICS) and in 2019, the Honorary Treasurer. My other ICS roles include Congress Director for the State of the Art (2018-2021). In Dec 2021 I was elected President of the Intensive Care Society. My interests include patient and relative experience, workforce development, medical education, use of information technology and quality Improvement.
