About Steve Migdol

From the time I was a small child, I wanted to be a doctor, but once I discovered the typewriter I realized that I loved writing stories too. I stayed focused on learning everything I could about medicine throughout my childhood and eventually became an ER nurse. My favorite part of being a nurse has been getting to meet fascinating people and hear their stories. I met my wife Sherrie at work and we were married in 2011. We traveled extensively together, and always enjoyed learning about different cultures together. She had a passion for helping improve healthcare and inspired me to go back to school as she worked on her master's in healthcare delivery science. I chose medical anthropology as the perfect combination of my own passions for improving healthcare, history, storytelling, and learning about people's experiences. Sadly, Sherrie died in May 2022. I am dedicated to carrying out the work she would have done if she had more time, including an ambitious plan to develop community wellness centers for those with low incomes so they may have access to things like fresh produce and exercise equipment to live healthier lives. I'm also an aspiring screenwriter. My screenplay "The Purple Heart Battalion" was a Finalist in the 2021 PAGE Awards, which had over entries. It tells the true story of the 100th Battalion, a segregated unit of Japanese-Americans from Hawai`i that paved the way for the most well-known 442nd Regimental Combat Team. The story was based on interviews with veterans and extensive research. Now with my anthropology background, I would like to partner with other people from marginalized backgrounds to collaboratively tell their stories.
