I have three rules. Show up early. Give 100%. Enjoy your time off. Showing up early means being prepared, anticipating and planning for delays, and understanding what’s expected of you so you can exceed those expectations. It means caring enough to respect your peers and managers, the people you supervise, and the clients you work with. It means knowing your responsibility and place within the firm and being fully accountable for that role. Giving 100% means you get to walk with your shoulders squared and looking people in the eye. If you do your best it shows in everything you do, large and small. You’re respected, trusted, and leaned on, and at the end of the day you get to go home and feel proud about what you do. When I’ve done both of those things well then my time off is well deserved, and I can relax and have fun.
