About Steve Oshaughnessy

My name is Steve O'Shaughnessy and I am the most dedicated person you will ever work with. I have banned the word “can't” from my vocabulary. We might not understand, might not know how to do something. Maybe we need help. But if we say, “Can't” that means we've given up. I don't give up. So, I banned that contraction. “Failure is not an option.” No one actually ever said those words, except in the movies. But those words embrace the attitude of the space program which led this country from the 1950's into the 70's doing things we'd never done before. Like walk on the moon. Those words and banning “I can't” embrace my work ethic. Using what I already know, and can do, I achieve results on any project assigned me. I consider myself a Data Engineer. Engineer because I design and build things. Data because I build things with data. I work with end users and customers to help them better understand their business and how to analyze it. I'm a Business Analyst, Business Intelligence, application tester, QA, and documentation pro. I build data and reporting solutions. I create and manage data warehouse databases. I build and maintain ETL jobs. I create reports and help end users create their own reports and analyses. I've Designed and built data warehouses with fact tables with 10's of millions records. Improved one legacy ETL process to run in 15 minutes from 2.5 hours. Re-worked legacy reports to run in under 1 minute from previous 7-10 minute runtimes. Java, Visual Basic, C, Python, SQL. SQL Server, MySQL, Informix, Infobright / InfiniDB, PostreSQL, and Oracle databases. Talend ETL and SSIS. SSRS, JasperSoft Reporting and JReport Reporting. Qlik Sense and Power BI data modeling.
