Background
About Steve Pollock
Deadly Turbulence" charts how airliner crashes in the early years of the Jet Age led to improvements in aviation operations during turbulence, both at altitude and on approach/departure and discuss the high price paid (in human terms) for advances in safety which we take for granted today. The full title:"Deadly Turbulence: The Air Safety Lessons of Braniff Flight 250 and Other Airliners, 1959-1966." It was published by McFarland Publishing (mcfarlandpub.com) in Spring 2014. McFarland is a quality publisher which produces around 400 books per year for public and academic libraries, as well as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and electronic vendors. They were extremely supportive for this project and I was excited to work with them and get this story into print. While Braniff 250 was the touchstone of the book and got the most detail/attention, other accidents were detailed along the way, including Northwest 705 (Miami, 1963) and Eastern 304 (New Orleans, 1964). In addition, the involvement of Dr. Ted Fujita, creator of the Fujita Scale of Tornado Intensity, was detailed; he provided key scientific research into Braniff 250. This was my first published work. I am a former small-town daily newspaper reporter, public education communications director, and elementary/secondary teacher, with over 30 years writing experience in a variety of media. i have a bachelor's degree in English from Cameron University of Oklahoma and a master's in education from the University of Michigan. I currently live in Nashville, TN, and am working on my second book. Specialties: Communications, technology, consulting, tutoring, parental communications, master's degree in education, computer teaching, internet safety tutoring, computer and network installation and support.
