About Steve Schmelick

Currently, I am the Promotions Manager at WKEF/WRGT in Dayton, Ohio. It’s a position that allows me to lead our promotion producers but still get hands on production experience. I’m responsible for overseeing the daily production of news and syndicated topicals. I also determine how we will leverage major programming opportunities to distribute our station’s branding and message. I’m also the lead concept generator when ideas are needed. While image concepts and daily promotion are the main need, I also excel in planning multi-platform marketing. I’ve developed promos that run on multiple outlets and reach a wide and diverse audience. I embrace the challenge of making these images work for different platforms. Another strength is my ability to elevate others. It's a challenge I take seriously and I proud that I've seen major growth from our producers. I’ve been able to expand skills and more importantly, develop confidence from those under my supervision. I take pride in my ability to have a vision and make that idea come to life. I think “on-the-fly” and can handle multiple tasks at any time. I constantly transition between projects and seamlessly perform this duty without any difficulty. In my most recent evaluation I was labeled as “the backbone” of our department. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, I was the leader in getting our department up and running remotely.
