About Steve Skutnik

Scientific researcher with background in nuclear physics and nuclear engineering. Chief research interests include nuclear non-proliferation, radioactive waste management, and public policy applications of nuclear engineering. Current research work involves the development of coupled depletion analysis for high-fidelity modeling of used nuclear fuel assemblies for purposes of enhancing nuclear safeguards modeling and detection capabilities, evaluation and modeling of advanced nuclear fuel cycles, and computational modeling of safeguards systems for advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities.Prior work includes coupling nuclear fuel depletion analysis to nuclear fuel cycle models in order to evaluate dynamics of fuel cycle characteristics, including proliferation resistance with the potential to evaluate other features, such as impacts upon waste management.Additional prior scientific research background includes published work involving the study and modeling of radiation-induced Single Event Effects in digital logic designs, with applications for front-end electronics on nuclear physics detectors.
