About Steve Sobell

I am an accomplished corporate tax executive with extensive mergers and acquisitions experience with a long track record of success in private law practice (5+ years), senior roles in corporate tax departments (9+ years in management and 7+ years as VP-Tax) and corporate development and M&A (3+ years). As VP-Tax for Spectra Energy, I set up a 40+ person department with employees in both the U.S. and Canada. I have counseled companies on some of the largest and complex transactions in the energy space, including spin off transactions, public stock for stock transactions, partnership formation and contribution transactions, unique financing structures and buy-sell transactions. I was asked to lead the M&A group at Spectra Energy based on my leadership abilities and the significance of taxes on strategy and structure. My last transaction was merger of Spectra Energy and Enbridge, which created North America's largest energy infrastructure company with an enterprise value of approximately $165 billion.
