About Steve Vazquez

Ever since I was child, I’ve had a passion for technology. I can still clearly recall the excitement of setting up my family’s first computer, an IBM that ran Windows 3.0. The idea of having our very own computer at home fascinated me. Up until this time my exposure to computers was minimal and directed toward learning typing skills using the Macintosh SE computer at school. Needless to say, it wasn’t long before my fascination turned to curiosity. I began to explore how the computer operated and the functionality of the system files it contained. My intrigue resulted in the accidental deletion of the very files required for the computer to run properly. Unfortunately, I had not yet acquired the skills to restore the files and we ended up having to return it to the store. Although we didn’t have that IBM computer for long, my love for computers and technology was born. To this day, that curiosity still exists within me. My strong desire for new knowledge and inquisitiveness for all things technical have led me to my IT profession. Currently, I am an independent IT consultant for several small companies. I specialize in several areas including Windows servers, networking, firewalls, file and email encryption, database development, and content-based website development. Although working on a wide array of projects can be an enjoyable challenge, I am currently focused on expanding my knowledge in the information security sector. I believe as the use of technology continues to grow in nearly all aspects of our lives, the necessity to protect the integrity and privacy of information will also continue to expand. Therefore, I am pursuing my master’s degree in information assurance in order to hone the skills necessary to develop new systems that will enable businesses to provide greater security in the evolving digital age.
