About Steve Weidner

Mr. Weidner is an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Subject Matter Expert (SME) with over 32 years of experience in the aviation industry. He began as a military air traffic controller in the United States Air Force and later transitioned to civilian service with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZMP). Mr. Weidner’s experience in both terminal and enroute facilities gives him a breadth of knowledge in the operation and evolution of the National Airspace System (NAS). Mr. Weidner spent ten years representing the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) at FAA headquarters, working first on the FAA’s Future Facilities and Section 804 (air traffic facilities realignment) projects, and then spent five years as part of the FAA Air Traffic Organization’s (ATO) unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) integration team. Mr. Weidner was involved in nearly every aspect of UAS integration during this period. He worked collaboratively with government and industry partners, as well as working directly with air traffic control field facilities to address integration challenges. Additionally, Mr. Weidner has over a decade of experience leading grassroots advocacy efforts on behalf of NATCA, to include organizing grassroots outreach to members of the U.S. Congress, direct advocacy on Capitol Hill, and the organization and execution of multiple fly-in lobbying events in Washington DC.
