About Steve Wintrip

I have had the opportunity to serve with several Fire & Rescue services during my career. Initially joining as an On Call firefighter in Essex I soon established a simultaneous Whole-time career with the Defence Fire Service. I served at several military bases during this time and successfully completed all three sets of statutory exams including the formidable Station Officers. In 2005 I changed my primary Whole Time fire service role joining Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service. Progressing through the ranks again in Herts until transferring back to Essex on promotion as a Flexi-duty Station Manager in 2019. Successfully leading a group of Stations, I again took the opportunity of a new challenge and was promoted to Group Manager in 2021. During my career I have also committed off duty time to the reserve forces serving with several units including a period of mobilised service in 2012. Continuing this commitment to serve I volunteered my off-duty time during the pandemic, as a volunteer at Mass Vaccination centres. I also qualified & worked as a volunteer vaccinator during this challenging time when not on duty in my Fire service capacity.
