Steven Dain MD, FRCPC is Chief Medical Informatics Officer at DocBox Inc a retired anesthesiologist after 40 years in academic, rural and surgicenter settings. Currently, Adjunct Professor, Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology at the University of Waterloo. For over 25 years, Dr. Dain has participated in the writing and development of Canadian National and International Standards for medical equipment and design and construction of healthcare facilities. Formerly the Chair of the Canadian Advisory Committee for the International Organization for Standardization TC121 - Anaesthetic Equipment and Medical Breathing Machines. He is now the Chair of ISO TC 121, Anesthesia and Respiratory Care equipment. Dr. Dain is a member of the SNOMED CT Anesthesia Clinical Reference Group, secretary of 11073 Medical Device Communications, member of the Standards Council of Canada Mirror Committee for ISO TC 215 Health Informatics. A member of the IHE (Integrating the Health Enterprise) Patient Care Devices Committee, developing medical device communications protocol for anesthesia equipment and critical care ventilators. He is also an adviser to the MD Plug and Play Program at Mass General Hospital Cambridge, MA. USA. Dr. Dain lectures widely on his particular interests of Anesthesia Technology, Usability Engineering, Medical Alarm Systems, Risk Management, Patient Safety, Design and construction of Healthcare Facilities, Acute Pain, E-Learning and Health Informatics.
