About Steven Fortney

I graduated from FIU in May of 2022 with a BA degree in Sustainability and the Environment. I began my career with Bass Pro Shops the day after graduation as a part-time camping associate. I was promoted to a full time CLUB outfitter less than 2 months later, and promoted again to manager just 8 months later. I am passionate about mentoring, assisting my peers, and reaching the next milestone each day. I'm reminded each day of a story shared with me, regarding two expedition teams racing to explore a region of Antarctica. Roughly told, the story goes:Team A chooses to hike 10 miles the first day, only 5 the second day due to stormy weather, 10 the third day, then only 5 again on the fourth day due to an injured person.Team B chooses to hike 10 miles the first day, 10 miles the second day with stormy weather, 10 miles the third day, and 10 miles the fourth day with an injured person.Team B finished first, and after some time, set out as a rescue unit to recover team A. Team A had run out of supplies and all the explorers perished. Team B was successful not because they did the same amount of miles each day, but because they adapted their strategies to the day. On day 2 with stormy weather, they got up early to do their miles before the storm and rested longer that night. On day 4 they carried their injured team mate the 10 miles. The team adapted to their challenges without altering their goals.I am reminded of this story every day, because every day I am faced with new challenges, yet my goals do not change. Therefore, I adapt to my challenges, and invent new ways to tackle these challenges.
