About Steven George

As the world approaches—and is likely to exceed—the Paris Agreement 1.5°C target under current emission scenarios (~2.6°C end of century warming, as per SSP2-4.5 scenario), it is increasingly clear that our shared dependance and collective well-being rests on the governance of our planetary commons—Earth System Tipping Points (ESTPs), Planetary Boundaries and other biophysical systems that maintain the stability, resilience, and life-support functions of the Earth system. With interdisciplinary experience across space systems engineering (Ph0/A), early-phase technology development (<TRL5), transdisciplinary research (e.g, Earth system science, system dynamics, social science, and Earth system governance), and active participation at global climate forums (e.g, COP28, COP29), I am committed to building capability, communities, and research networks that can translate the short- and long-term governance needs of the Anthropocene into Earth Observation R&D requirements. This includes supporting both discovery-driven and long-term & continuous mission development through integrated remote sensing infrastructure (i.e, Acquisition, Dissemination and Intelligence) designed to enable anticipatory and adaptive Earth system governance, while advancing Earth System Stewardship as a defining global imperative for the 21st century and beyond.
