About Steven Groot

After my graduation as PhD at Wageningen University in seed physiology, I have been working five years in cucumber breeding followed by five years in plant biotechnology before returning to seed research. This enabled me to understand also breeding and plant biotechnological languages. Since 1997 I work again in the field of Seed Science and Technology. Next to my own research topics on processes happening during seed maturation, germination and seed ageing, I am coordinating larger research programs on seed research and technology. These included programmes to tackle challenges with organic seed production. Together with my colleague Mariana Silva Artur I organise yearly a master class on seed technology, a post academic course to update and broaden the expertise in seed science and technology. With Johan Van Asbrouck (Rhino Research, Thailand) I established the International Seed Academy with the aim to provide courses for the (Asian) seed industry and public institutes to update their skills and expertise in seed technology. I'm vice-chair of the ISTA Seed Storage Committee.
