I am looking to apply my experience to move into a sales career. A transition to Sales allows me to merge my product knowledge (11 years of supporting medical devices), understanding of customer needs (6 years of customer support on medical devices), and teaching/training experience to resolve customer problems by providing them with solutions on a larger scale rather than troubleshooting individual instrument issues. I served as the first point of contact for customers where I provided technical support to ensure instruments were operational to yield accurate patient results. In training scenarios, I carried out technical explanations to unfamiliar customers who were using their newly acquired equipment. In a leadership role, I managed team KPIs using bowlers which drove action plans to improve behaviors as required. The underlying requirement was to identify and manage customer needs then providing the best solution to address their needs. This direct customer experience translates to identifying and understanding an accounts strategy and vision. Knowledge of our products and services allows me to promote the ideal solution to fit the customer’s needs. Although I am new to sales, I have become familiar with sales concepts through sales training provided by my current operating company, as well as self-directed study through sales books and programs. I have an ability to adapt to new environments, as demonstrated when I transitioned from individual contributor in the Call Center to a Leadership position managing my previous coworkers. I am capable of learning quickly, as was required for my current role where I was tasked with becoming the subject matter expert on a product line within 6 months. I see these as assets required to master the sales learning curve and to become a subject matter expert on the products and services I would be selling. Personal development objectives include moving from a Service role to a Sales role through hands-on experience (ride-alongs, sales calls, business reviews), coaching/mentoring (active discussions with high-performing sales execs at my company), and self-study (books, audiobooks, sales training programs).
