About Steven Mitre

As an 18-year-old young man from Gary, Indiana, I was employed by a nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assisting the elderly in their final stage of life. I made it a priority to inquire and obtain sage wisdom and counsel, asking the quintessence in the meaning of life, they shared with me three key things to find in my journey ahead. The last one, “serve” stuck with me. I knew nothing about the military, but after a trip to the local recruiting office, the Marine Corps recruiter told me he could offer me one single thing— the chance to earn the title of Marine. Knowing nothing about the Marine Corps or the process, I discovered that this path would be the most challenging and demanding lifestyle I could pursue at this very moment. I was fully in because I knew it would create a path for me to test myself and the leader I wanted to become would organically emerge. 20 years later, I have learned many lessons in leadership and truly found my calling in serving others. My profession involves the leading and development of people as a United States Marine Officer. I have been successful in serving as a Military Police Officer and many other facets of military law, security operations, and defense functions internationally and on a national level. Currently, in what may be my final chapter in the Marine Corps, I have requested to serve as an Officer Selection Officer, to find the nation’s future leaders and Marine Officers! I greatly enjoy conversations with those who are aspiring to do something great in their life. People are complex, always changing, and are constantly striving to find balance, meaning, and make demanding decisions about which direction to go and which path to take in life. My purpose today is to have a conversation with those who believe they have what it takes to earn the title of Marine Officer at Officer Candidate School to become a high-caliber leader of Marines!
