About Steven Phillips

I practice in all areas of employment litigation and arbitration. I defend employers in matters involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, whistleblower/retaliation and reprisal, defamation, and in breach of contract and compensation-related matters. I both pursue and defend claims for breach of restrictive covenants, unfair competition, and employee raiding, and claims involving trade secrets. I also advise clients as to restrictive covenant compliance and draft employment-related agreements. In the financial services area, I have substantial experience defending all types of disputes arising under the federal and state employment and securities laws. My financial services clients have included securities brokerage and investment banking firms, asset managers, registered investment advisers, public and private companies and individuals. I regularly appear in the state and federal courts in Minnesota and have appeared in hundreds of arbitrations before the FINRA, and other arbitration tribunals. In the recent past, in addition to a robust practice in Minnesota, I have represented clients in cases/matters in California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, D.C. and Wisconsin. I have also served as a mediator in lawsuits and arbitrations involving financial services employers.
