This results in enabling structural engineers to design greener, more efficient structures which can not only provide significant cost savings, but better ensure the safety of its occupants. When studying a problem, engineers look for ways to practically and effectively solve them with the allotted time, budget, and technology available. The result has been the use of conservative code requirements paired with analysis solutions that sacrifice accuracy through simplified input and analysis. With the integration of building information modeling (BIM) into the design of structures, a performance based life-cycle approach is becoming an integrated process. This process looks at all phases of a construction, from design to, maintenance, extreme events, disaster response, rehabilitation, and eventual demolition or structural forensics. This paired with recent advances in structural analysis, simplified analysis is not the only economical solution. In fact, in many cases it is more costly when compared to a performance based analysis of the entire structure.
