Background
About Steven Silber
I'm a Ph.D. candidate and graduate teaching assistant in Physics at Western University, where I model processes like wound healing or cancer cell migration using "phase-field modelling", a method for writing and simulating many different kinds of real-world systems. For this work, I was awarded the prestigious NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral (CGSD) Award. My work involves developing SymPhas, a general-purpose C++ software and API for simulating phase-field models that I started from scratch in 2017. It is the first of its kind in the phase-field modelling field and implements a novel symbolic algebra library (https://github.com/SoftSimu/SymPhas). I also have industry experience in Big Data, automation, and software deployment, having worked as a technical systems analyst at RBC for over a year. I have over five years of professional experience in C++ programming, Linux, shell scripting, and GitHub, and 2 years of industry experience in Python and Java programming. I have expertise in high-performance computing and parallelization, particularly for numerical methods with OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA.
