About Steven Tinker

Possessing 26 years of experience gained through service with the Royal Navy (RN), I have had the privilege to ‘see the world’, learn what camaraderie means, and develop professionally from Apprentice Engineer to Engineering Manager aiding the Operational Effectiveness of the Service. I have worked at the Maritime Operations Centre Northwood, managing global engineering support to the RN in response to operational defect (OPDEF) management; communicating with key stakeholders in RN management and external agencies to deliver operational effectiveness of the RN both in the here and now and longer-term engineering availability through engineering systems performance feedback reviews. Sea experience has seen employment in RN Ships as a Systems Engineer and latterly Engineering Manager, leading and directing maintenance management, defect investigation, repair and commissioning for communications, sensors, weapons, and information technology systems. Providing expert advice including health and safety (H&S) management of hazardous materials and hazards control management associated with these systems, advising, and enforcing adherence to safety to ensure conformity to the RN safe to operate protocols. Shore experience has seen employment within DE & S Abbeywood working as part of the core support infrastructure for the Armed Forces; upskilling frontline engineering personnel as part of the Flag Officer Sea Training (North) organisation; professional development through completion of numerous training courses in engineering knowledge development, engineering systems, and personal and team leadership management courses. Thanks to my service in the RN, I am a confident team leader possessing engineering knowledge, leadership and mentoring skills, focussed on human resource work life balance and the continuous professional development of team personnel. Recently employed by BAE Systems I am looking forward to continuing my engineering career and supporting the RN and its duty to the UK, albeit in a slightly different manner.
