About Steven Vail

Steve Vail has more than 40 years of engineering experience in nuclear power generation projects and radioactive dangerous waste treatment plants. He is a Bechtel Certified Engineering Supervisor, and has been working as an Materials Engineering Technology Engineer expert at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) for the last 18 years. Prior to that he worked for 22 years supporting operating nuclear plants, cleaning up the spent fuel pool at the N Reactor and was Nuclear Group Leader during the commissioning of Limerick Generating Station, Unit 2. Before joining Bechtel, he worked 5 years for the US Navy, Division of Naval Reactors. Prior to 2012, Steve was the mechanical interface for design basis and safety requirements, including licensing, code compliance, quality assurance, equipment qualification, and commercial grade dedication issues. He is currently involved in resolving materials issues and technical issues regarding the estimated wear rates of vessels and piping from waste particles and glass formers entrained in Newtonian and non-Newtonian slurries. The work involves erosion from pulse jet mixer impingement in vessels and from slurry flows and potential sliding beds in piping. He is also active member on the ASME B31.3, Process Piping, sub-committee. He is an inactive member of The State Bar of California.He is a member of ANS, ASME, ASM, NACE, and NFPA.
