About Steven Willis

I work for the best educational system on the planet and am blessed to be where I am. In past careers, I've worked in several industries including real estate, door-to-door sales, B2B sales, & healthcare. I got my feet wet teaching at the College of Eastern Idaho and Steven's-Henager College. Those experiences gave me greater insight into the needs of non-traditional students and the excitement that can exist in the classroom. I was able to teach students in subjects like Marketing Principles, Sales & Customer Service, Management, and more.Teaching was very rewarding, but I made the transition into administration to be able to join BYU-Idaho's Online Learning effort and be part of something I believe in deeply. The only thing better would be to combine the two and teach for BYU-Idaho full time. To that end, I teach for the Management department as an adjunct. Within Online Learning, I led large student teams, mediated between faculty and online when tensions arose, directed focus groups, and met with Spanish speaking Pathway Students in our pilot English Connect products in various locations. For several years working in the Online effort for BYU-Idaho, I helped craft the quality assurance framework used today and ran a team that implemented and measured courses against these standards. My last year in Online Learning was spent managing online adjuncts through more than a dozen assistant managers who helped me collect data, evaluate performance, and oversee a complex system of teachers across the nation.Now, as the Faculty Development Manager, I direct the SCOT program on campus which helps faculty gather feedback on the student experience in their classrooms. I also help in the onboarding of both adjunct and full time faculty, develop training, and am creating a badging system to track professional development and training on our campus. On a personal level, I love watching movies and playing video games, and listening to music of all kinds. I hunt elk for fun, for tasty steaks, and because I'm the co-owner of Flexmark Outdoors which produces elk & deer calls. We have dealers located in Australia, Guam, New Zealand, and the US. I'm a blackbelt in Taekwondo as are my wife and children. I play the guitar a bit and can carry a tune. My favorite books are probably Pride and Prejudice and The Count of Monte Cristo.
