Background
About Steven Winter
I'm currently a PhD candidate under the supervision of Drs. Margaret Wild and Pilar Fernandez in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology and the Paul G. Allen School of Global Animal Health at Washington State University. I'm interested in understanding emerging diseases in mammalian communities for wildlife conservation. For my PhD research, I use spatial epidemiology techniques to understand spatial properties and environmental drivers of a novel hoof disease affecting elk population in the US Pacific Northwest. Upon completion of my PhD, I hope to work as a research biologist for a federal or state agency, ideally continuing to study wildlife disease ecology.
