Background
About Stevie Quick
My name is Stevie Quick i'm currently a first year Bachelor of Pharmacy student at Griffith University Gold Coast. I grew up on the Gold Coast graduating high school from Miami State High in 2020, 4 years ago my venture into community pharmacy began. Loving my first ever job so much i thought i'd make it my career! My goal is to graduate in 2024 and begin my career as a pharmacist. During the past 4 years of this job I have definitely obtained a variety of disciplinary and transferrable skills such as:Problem Solving: problem solving is a necessary skill to have in community pharmacy as many important medications go out of stock by supplies frequently, in this case it is our job to find alternative ways to source. Life or death medication such as insulin or heart medication for patients, whether that be contacting another pharmacy who had the medicine in stock before it became unavailable, sourcing a different supplier or contacting the GP/ specialist for alternative treatments.Professionalism: Sometimes a visit to the pharmacy can often be embarrassing for patients so it is our job to maintain professionalism to make patients feel more comfortable, whether that is taking them to a quieter space in the pharmacy or simply lowering your voice when consulting the patients. Empathy: A pharmacy often has a regular clients dealing with a variety of different health issues everyday, some patients are diagnosed with terminal health conditions so it is important to be able to empathise with these patients and display a caring nature. Adapting to new and improving technology: Community pharmacy has seen a major shift in technologies, from manually entering hand written prescriptions to printed prescriptions with a scannable barcode and finally completely electronic prescriptions. It is important to keep informed on new and improving technologies to make the workplace more efficient for co-workers and patients.
