About Stew Spaull

I am a newly-qualified teacher of science (induction completed July 2022) with a PGCE Secondary (Distinction, Canterbury Christ Church University, 2020), plus QTS. In September 2022, I started a new position as a Leader of Learning (Science) at King’s InterHigh. In March 2022, I was diagnosed as autistic. Receiving this diagnosis shortly before I turned 42 has been transformative for me in understanding my entire life experience. I am beginning to write about autism from the perspective of a late-diagnosed autistic adult (see stewspaull.substack.com) and I intend to become an advocate for fellow autistic people, speaking up for those who are marginalized. For this, I can draw on my experiences working in the Third Sector. Prior to my teacher training, I worked as a self-employed freelance writer for several years. That period followed a three-year stint at a Third Sector organization which provided care and support services to adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs.
