About Storm Robinson
Storm's forest education started at Fleming College in Ontario where she obtained Forestry Technician and GIS Cartography Diplomas. Throughout her time at Fleming, she was a tutor in identification courses (trees and plants, wildlife, wood, rocks & minerals). She also had full time employment in the summers there helping with lab preparation, administrative duties, and organizing campus events such as: OMNR Ranger Workshops, Training regional Envirothon team, and hosting Ontario Provincial Envirothon with Forests Ontario. This came out of Storm's prior experience as an event and wedding coordinator. Storm also completed the Ontario Tree Marking Course in 2017 Storm now holds a Master of Science in Forestry and a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, both from the University of New Brunswick. Some highlights of her employment opportunities at UNB included Teaching Assistant positions in; Forestry 101, Structure and Development of Woody Plants, and 4020 Capstone Project management. She also worked with UNB Forest Lands in the Creighton Conservation Forest. She then became a Research Assistant in the D'Orangeville tree growth lab working on dendrochronology, and her thesis culminated with testing frost hardiness and measuring growth anomalies of red spruce trees. She also interned at the National Tree Seed Centre for a summer doing germination testing and learning about cryopreservation of seed. Storm is Chair of the Board for the Canadian Institute of Forestry Maritimes Section and is a founding member of the NB chapter of Women in Wood. Storm was invited to present on DEI at the Advancing Women in Conservation summit (2023), the Canadian Institute of Forestry AGM (2024), and the Women in Forestry Virtual Summit (2025). Storm won over 13 awards and scholarships in her young career including: 2024 Outstanding Volunteer Award, Canadian Institute of Forestry 2022 Fraser Inc. Prize for Excellence in Forestry from UNB, 2019 Graduates Award in Forestry from UNB, 2017 Gold Medal Award for Merit from the Canadian Institute of Forestry At the Northern Hardwoods Research Institute, Storm manages knowledge mobilization efforts and leads applied research projects such as artificial regeneration of hardwoods and adaptive silviculture. A highlight of Storm's career at NHRI was the opportunity to coordinate and present at the Northern Hardwoods Conference 2023 in Fredericton. Storm works remotely while raising her teenage son, who plays lacrosse, hockey, and football. They are happily surrounded by 2 dogs, 2 cats, and the silver maple flood plains of the Nashwaak River.
