About Stuart Bauler

My passion for environmental sustainability and conservation is deeply rooted. My desire to pursue a career in Environmental Studies is derived from a childhood spent outdoors, and a zeal to protect the environment for future generations. These early experiences gave me an appreciation for our natural resources that lead me to engage in several environmental-related volunteer experiences as an adult, such as trail building and maintenance. However, my related academic background shows me the importance of melding this ecological understanding of conservation with another vital aspect of preserving nature: the historical, economic, and cultural knowledge of a land and its people. In an effort to hone my skills in today’s highly competitive market, I enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program for Environmental Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. The coursework gives me a basic knowledge of human society and how studying natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities intersects with environmental conservation. As my knowledge grows with the curriculum, I become exposed to the many paths this major has to offer. My goal for school is to study the intersection of ecology and culture at the heart of conservation issues, with a particular focus on preventing local resource users from exhausting the natural environment. On a personal note, my hobbies and interests revolve around outdoor activities, including mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, trail building, and maintenance.
