Background
About Stuart Black
With a solid foundation in woodworking technology from Conestoga College, where I graduated with distinction in 2009, I began my professional journey as a cabinetmaker. My career initially took root at Pinehurst Store Fixtures, where I quickly advanced from a Junior Cabinet Maker to a Trim Sawyer within just a year and a half. During my tenure at Pinehurst, I was involved in creating bespoke store fixtures for prestigious clients such as Burberry, Starbucks, and MAC Cosmetics. This role honed my attention to detail, craftsmanship, and the ability to deliver high-quality products under stringent deadlines. In 2017, driven by a passion for continuous learning and growth, I decided to pivot my career towards mechanical engineering. I returned to Conestoga College to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automated Manufacturing. This transition was catalyzed by a desire to expand my technical expertise and engage with larger scale industrial projects. During my studies, I completed a co-op term with Polycorp, working with the quality team. This experience was pivotal, providing me with invaluable insights into the rigorous standards and processes within the manufacturing sector. After graduating, I rejoined Polycorp, this time in the mining department as a Product Designer. Over the past three and a half years, I have been at the forefront of designing innovative liner products for Ball mills and SAG mills, utilizing both AutoCAD and SolidWorks. My role involves not just designing but also enhancing the performance and durability of our products, which are critical to the mining industry's operations. My journey from a detailed-oriented cabinetmaker to a solution-driven mechanical engineering technologist showcases my adaptability and relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence. At Polycorp, I continue to leverage my skills to contribute to and enhance our product offerings, ensuring they meet the high standards of functionality and quality that our clients expect. As I look forward to continuing my professional development, I am eager to connect with other industry professionals to explore opportunities, share insights, and collaborate on projects that challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of engineering and design.
