About Stuart Hughes

Results-driven project and contracts manager with a proven track record in delivering complex, high-value infrastructure programs across defence, telecommunications, and engineering sectors. At BAE Systems, I lead build and test activities for the AUKUS submarine program, managing multidisciplinary teams from manufacturing engineering through to commissioning and transition-to-build. I am currently driving the Modularisation initiative, a game-changing approach to submarine construction that is reducing schedules, improving integration, and significantly boosting productivity. Previously, with Morrison Telecom Services, I managed large-scale fibre network rollout programs, both as Contracts Manager and Project Manager. I oversaw full turnkey delivery—from civils and cabling to splicing—ensuring compliance, safety, and quality while consistently exceeding client delivery targets. My leadership across operations, commercial management, and subcontractor coordination accelerated network expansion and enhanced service coverage across Scotland. I thrive in high-pressure, schedule-critical environments where strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and disciplined execution make the difference between good and exceptional outcomes. Whether managing a submarine build or a nationwide telecoms program, my focus remains the same: deliver efficiently, lead effectively, and exceed expectations.
