I enjoy developing and running large distributed systems. Some of these systems are in-house bare-metal datacenters that manage the big data for a big data company. I started with the hardware testing and created a cluster that delivers 130 PB of data and the compute to run jobs per day.I have also maintained and enhanced image download, transformation and serving services with 30 TiB of cache and QPS.The front end tools for these services are equally important so I have also enhanced user interfaces in Javascript/AngularJs and C# with and for users.My work has often involved big data but not always datacenters. I also enjoy creating databases and visualisation tools while connecting C++, Java and JavaScript.As part of my definition of tech "fun", I have my server in the cloud that runs my email, Matrix, Nextcloud, Syncthing, Etesync and git servers in Docker containers. And home automation with three Home Assistant servers that communicate over MQTT to run the house.
