About Stuart Smith

I have over twenty-five years of experience as an intellectual property attorney and have been associated with a number of prestigious national and international law firms. My practice concentrates primarily in the mechanical, electromechanical, and software arts. I provide my clients with counselling, intellectual property program development, patent portfolio management, and the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. I have experience in many aspects of patent law, including utility and design patent preparation and prosecution; patentability, validity, and infringement opinions; due diligence reviews; and patent portfolio development and management. Prior to pursuing a career in patent law, I practiced law in the field of construction litigation. I have experience in a wide variety of technical areas, including manufacturing equipment, photocopier systems, ink jet and laser printing systems, image processing systems, weapon systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, systems for processing materials using explosive forces, home appliances, construction systems, motorcycle parts, automotive systems including hybrid transmission systems, automotive tires, electric power systems, personal care products, magnetic transmission systems, electric motors, medical devices, and software.
