About Stuart Yates

I specialise in leading complex transformational change, often in challenging and stressed turnaround or growth situations. Generally, I do this by taking positions as Chairman, MD or Chief Restructuring Officer. I have also operated as a board advisor, COO and FD. I have worked across a range of public, institutionally backed and privately owned companies. I have primarily operated within £20m-£500m revenue range SME sized businesses. I have a proven record in a variety of situations, but particularly focus on building company culture through developing robust organisation structures, personnel, processes and accountability. I am pragmatic, engage with people and build trust. In 2020, my approach was recognised with an award as a “Leading Expert in Corporate Restructuring & Operational Performance Improvement” and in 2021 as “Corporate Restructuring Specialist of the Year”. My roles have taken me internationally as well as working in the UK, covering continental Europe, US and Africa. I currently work through the Orran consulting/interim brand. Between 2002-10 I was a partner in a specialist debtor side turnaround firm, MPC Partners LLP. Between 2001-02, I undertook a leadership assignment in the US, restructuring a NASDAQ listed interactive TV business, following a spell in working as COO of a software business. Between 1994-99 I worked at The Royal Bank of Scotland’s captive private equity business, becoming a board director. At RBDC, I led or was involved with investments totalling over £100m at cost and was a non-executive director of several investee companies. I started my career in Arthur Andersen’s corporate recovery and corporate finance practices. As well as time in PE I also have Special Situations investment experience. Altogether I have seen through 8 PE managed investment and exit processes, 2 special situations investments to exit, and 4 in company invest to exit processes Specialities: C-suite leadership, multi-site international operations, building world class information and control systems, developing management teams and organisation design, corporate and financial restructuring, operational performance improvement, international alliance and joint venture negotiations, special situations investing, strategy, complex stakeholder management, early stage business development, corporate governance, corporate viability and threat response.
