When I was in high school, Burma was under the rule of dictatorship, and my family fled to the United States under UN Refugee Protection. At age 17, I entered high school in the United States with limited English. I finished high school in two years and then began higher education. As my knowledge of English grew, I was able to help other Burmese refugees by translating and teaching them American culture. Helping other people is what I really love to do, and it was natural for me to want to become a teacher. So I set my goals and pursued a degree in education. I finished an Associate in Science degree at Dallas (TX) College, and then a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, Summa Cum Laude, at the University of Texas at Arlington. After passing my Texas state teacher certification tests, I received my first two teaching certifications, which will allow me to take a full-time teaching position. I am currently tutoring Mathematics at the University of Texas at Arlington, and substitute teaching in various subjects and grade levels at different schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, to allow me to have more experience in the classroom before I start teaching full-time.
