About Subhani Medawela

I am a researcher working at the University of Technology Sydney, where my work involves conducting experimental and numerical analyses of bio-geochemical clogging in granular filters within acid sulfate soil terrain. My research is conducted in collaboration with industry partners, aiming to discover optimal geotechnical solutions for mitigating environmental impacts such as groundwater acidification and metal dissolution in mining sites and coastal areas. I hold a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Wollongong. During my doctoral studies, I developed original mathematical and numerical models for analyzing groundwater flow, as well as porosity and permeability reduction in porous media. I also introduced design criteria for permeable reactive barriers, a proven method for treating acidic groundwater. My work has resulted in multiple publications and awards, and I possess strong presentation and communication skills. My overarching goal is to advance the fields of Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental Engineering and contribute to the sustainable development of natural resources.
