About Sue Cotton

I am a registered psychologist (clinically trained in neuropsychology) and consultant biostatistician with over 22 years experience in mental health research, particularly in clinical trials and longitudinal studies in psychotic and mood disorders in young people Other research interests include psychometric evaluation of routine outcome measures, scale development, data linkage and health service evaluation. I have been in receipt of prestigious awards such as the Tom Trauer Evaluation and Research Reward (The Mental Health Services Learning Network, theMHS, 2020) and the Oration Award (Society for Mental Health Research, 2023). After more than two decades at Orygen and The University of Melbourne, I joined the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University and Turner Institute of Brain and Mental Health in June 2024. I lead the Early Intervention in Mental Health Lab and am Director of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Bipolar Disorder (CORE-BD; GNT2015747, The focus of the CORE-BD is on identifying opportunities for early intervention in bipolar disorder as well as driving innovation in interventions. I also currently led an NHMRC Partnership Grant (GNT1198696) modelling outcomes for young people with depression and anxiety in primary mental health services, with partners including the Victorian State Government, headspace National and Ambulance Victoria. My expertise in clinical neuropsychology, clinical trial methodology, biostatistics, data linkage, psychometrics, data harmonisation, and outcomes research strengthens the interpretation and translation of findings from these diverse research programs.
