About Sukumar Natarajan

I am the Deputy Director of the Energy and Design of Environments (EDEn) research unit at the University of Bath. I have been principal and co-investigator on grants exceeding £1.6 million in the last 4 years. I am interested in developing both technology-driven and user-driven opportunities for delivering truly low carbon and sustainable buildings that will continue to perform well into the future. A lot of my work concentrates on developing software systems to solve complex problems including large scale simulations and sensor-driven feedback. I also have a strong interest in thermal comfort models and their application to a range of different environments, especially under climate change. I also lead the MSc in Architectural Engineering: Environmental Design at the University of Bath. The MSc covers a wide variety of topics including natural ventilation, daylighting, thermal performance of facades, building energy modelling, thermal comfort, artificial lighting, environmental impact, sustainable materials, renewable technologies and acoustics. We attract high calibre students from all over the world. Many have carried on to work with leading consultancies including Buro Happold and the BRE. Some of our best students also carry on to do doctoral work at Bath and other leading universities in the area.
