About Sumit Desai

As the Managing Director and Director of Research at Mesirow, I lead the wealth management investment research team, conducting and overseeing due diligence and manager selection across all asset classes on behalf of advisors and clients. With a career spanning 23 years, including 8 years at Mesirow, I have built my professional journey around the principles of value investing, focusing on finding and investing in high-quality businesses for the long term. I hold the CFA designation and am proud of my team’s approach of sticking to what works in investing. We maintain a unique investment philosophy based on four core pillars: thinking like owners, having a long-term mindset, emphasizing fundamentals, and focusing on valuation. We pride ourselves on “going under the hood” to get to know the managers and the businesses they invest in. Outside of work, I enjoy playing bass guitar and trumpet, working on my golf game, and spending time with my family. I am also a member of CFA Chicago.
