About Sumit Jena

With a strong passion for green mobility and renewable energy systems, I bring extensive experience in design, engineering, and commercial strategy. I have led product development initiatives, including the creation of ultra-fast DC chargers for heavy-duty electric vehicles and the development of lithium-ion battery systems for various vehicle segments. My commercial acumen is demonstrated through my profound understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry and my ability to select, test, grade, sort, and benchmark performance for e-mobility applications. Throughout my career, I have successfully established public and semi-private charging stations, implemented cutting-edge IoT-based solutions for fleet IT requirements, and led engineering teams responsible for vehicle battery integration, product certification, BMS development, and advanced vehicle battery homologation. In the energy sector, I have made significant contributions across the entire spectrum, from generation to distribution and PV to HV/MV grid interconnections for power evacuation strategies. Additionally, I have commissioned virtual power plants based on decentralized battery storage units for both consumer and industrial segments. Within the European Union, I spearheaded multiple initiatives focused on achieving sustainability and net-zero carbon goals for large-scale building projects. I have spearheaeded multiple energy transition projects to enhance the intelligence of commercial and industrial buildings. I have led several energy efficency improvemt programs leading from Ie3 to Ie5 motor upgrades Led light replacement programs, Harmonics Filters, Busways vs cables replacements, Optimized Transformers Oil type vs Dry type, Energy metering,AC microgrid vs DC microgrid for Direct current initiatives enabling upto 20~30% energy savings. A single voice for switching to Total Cost of Ownership instead of Capex spend for evaluating Energy efficency related budget spends. I have worked with multiple cross functional teams to enable them understand value metrics to evaluate energy efficiency projects finance/sustainability/ senior management/ Maintenance etc I played a pivotal role in successfully developing design templates for Amazon EU Logistics and Warehousing, thereby contributing to their sustainability endeavors. This involved pioneering the electrification of middle-mile electric trucks, complemented by an optimized charging infrastructure supported by self-enabled microgrids, as a response to the limited availability of grid infrastructure.
