About Sumit Somani

I am a Vice President at Mobile Premier League (MPL), the largest mobile gaming and esports platform in India and Southeast Asia. I have over 10 years of experience in product management, strategy, fraud and risk management, and consulting, across MPL, Paytm, Mckinsey & Google. As the product owner at GGX, a subsidiary of MPL, I am building an in-app marketplace for trading virtual in-game assets on blockchain, enabling gamers to play and earn. Our first party game 'Striker' with play and earn mechanics hit a peak of $9 M ARR GMV in the first 9 months of launch, and we are working on launching more games, both first party and third party. I am also part of the CEO office and look at strategic projects, such as MPL Originals and Esports broadcasting and streaming platform. Before joining MPL, I was a Vice President at Epiq Capital, where I sourced and evaluated investment opportunities in growth and late stage tech startups in India. Prior to that, I headed the fraud risk management for customers and merchants across verticals at Paytm, Paytm Mall and Paytm Payments Bank for almost 6 years, reducing system abuse, device and account take over frauds, and card take over frauds significantly. I started my career as a Consultant at McKinsey & Company, where I advised clients across sectors on various topics, such as growth strategy, digital transformation, and operational excellence. I have a MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, where I ranked 3rd in my batch, and a BTech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, where I graduated with a 9.6 CGPA. I also have a PPO from Google, where I interned as a Software Engineering Intern, and a Gold Medal from the International Chemistry Olympiad. I am passionate about building and scaling innovative products and platforms that create value and impact for users and stakeholders.
