About Summer Xavier

Serving as an educator and leader in urban schools for over a decade has led to a natural progression towards DEI work, innovation and change theory. The pandemic may have lifted a veil to reveal inequity and painful truths, but when you do this work, there is no hiding from it. For me, knowing and understanding the truths and authentic needs of those I serve is at the forefront of everything I do. Learning and working to liberate and undo oppressive and harmful practices in education keeps me up at night. Something has to give. My years of service afforded me opportunities to teach middle school and adult basic education, GED classes, write curriculum, support students as a learning and intervention specialist. In most recent years I served as a principal and sat on the executive leadership team working through a strategic plan, meeting board requests and various compliance metrics. I have researched and developed programs, partners, curriculum and strategies, evaluated programs, best-practices, assessment tools, curriculum and teachers; I have mentored, coached and always do the work I asked of others, alongside and as a teammate.
