About Sumona Roy

Born and raised in Hamilton, Sumona has pursued her passion in the area of social justice, equity, inclusion and leadership. Her experience entails provincial curriculum development in the areas of mathematics, critical literacy, technology, mental health and well-being, as well as social justice and equity. Sumona is part of a team in developing and implementing a System Wide Mentoring Program for Indigenous, Black and Racialized Educators that focuses on engaging in utilizing personal voice and story to strengthen leadership as well as create a support system for educators who have leadership aspirations. With a strong background in the area of “Women in Leadership”, Sumona has developed workshops and seminars focused on the future career development of women leadership skills, collaboration and reflective practices. Sumona's passion has been in the area of Media Journalism as a writer, interview host as well as continuing to perform as a professional Indian Classical Dancer and Choreographer. She is the Director and CEO of Shakti Fine Arts and Creative Director of Unity360 Media. She has been a Vice-Principal with the Halton District School Board. Previous to this she was a teacher and coach/consultant with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. Sumona embraces new learning, collaboration and reflection on various ideas and subjects. She is always looking for new opportunities to apply her skills in a creative way.
