About Sunanda Kumar Mitra

In a long professional career spanning 1974 onwards, a strong foundation was built in the first 20 years with the State Bank of India in multiple roles in both Retail and Corporate Banking following which I evolved as a commercial banker in both Retail and SME space for the next 18 years in the private sector with Axis Bank up to my superannuation in 2013. The last two years as National Head of Retail Banking was memorable and a stint as Head of Business with the emerging Bandhan Bank during its transition in 2015 and 2016 from a Micro Finance Institution to a Universal Bank. Subsequently, a strong entrepreneurial urge and conviction in the micro lending led me to join hands with a former colleague from Axis Bank Mr Alok Biswas who had already served a 6 year spell in this space to set up Janakalyan Financial Services Pvt Ltd (formerly Janakalyan Consultancy and Services Pvt Ltd) as an NBFC MFI in the year 2016/17. Both of us are committed to promote Janakalyan as a well governed MFI to create a meaningful difference in the lives of backward women in rural centers through livelihood support and enabling them to find their rightful position in the community through financial empowerment and social awareness.
