About Sunil Mani

I have an academic background, having held notable roles at esteemed institutions in India and abroad. He served as the director and professor, holding the Reserve Bank of India Chair at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum, Kerala. Previously, he was a faculty member and head of graduate studies at the United Nations University-Institute for New Technologies (now UNU-MERIT) in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Dr. Mani earned his MPhil and PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He furthered his academic pursuits with postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, supported by a fellowship from the Ford Foundation, New York. His expertise is globally recognized through visiting professorships at prestigious institutions including the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan, Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, the University of Toulouse Jean Jaures in Toulouse, France, and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Furthermore, Dr Mani contributes significantly to the scholarly community by serving on the editorial boards of two esteemed international journals: Structural Change and Economic Dynamics (Elsevier), and the International Journal of Technology and Globalization (Inderscience). For a comprehensive list of his publications, please visit the link to Professor Sunil Mani's publications My current research spans several key areas:(i) Investigating the innovation performance within high-technology sectors in India, with a focus on case studies from Computer Software Services and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industries.(ii) Assessing the innovation performance within India's Green Economy, particularly examining Green Energy (Solar and Wind) and Green Transportation (Electric Vehicles) Analyzing the size and contribution of India’s space economy.(iv) Examining the employment consequences of New Technologies in Indian and Asian Manufacturing Industries, with a specific case study on Multipurpose Industrial Robots.(v) Formulating policies aimed at stimulating and nurturing technological self-reliance within India’s manufacturing industry, including an analysis of Patent and R&D tax incentive policies.
